This village was created after Castle Haarzuilens and its grounds were reconstructed around 1891. The villagers moved 1.5 kilometres to the east of their old homes to this new settlement in 1898. The houses are built around a trapezoidal village square and its most striking building is the Wapen van Haarzuilens, which was designed as an inn and a council chamber. Practically all of the village's shutters and doors are painted red and white, the colours of the Van Zuylen family, the owners of the castle. Every year in September, the Haarzuilens fair is traditionally opened by the Baron who presents a great fireworks display to the village's inhabitants - 500 strong.
