In the heart of Maximapark you'll find this unusual work of art that artist Fernando Sánchez Castillo desribed as a ‘monument for democracy, an ode to those who rose up against injustice and oppression'. The sculpture refers to pockets of resistance and battle. Barricade is modelled on student uprisings in 1968, but also forms an actual barricade on the main road through the park. The work is composed of a Citroën 2CV, a Fiat 500, a Vespa scooter, car tyres, flags, rocks and pieces of wood – all cast in bronze.
