Located in Żeromski Park, Sokolnicki Fort is part of the 19th century Warsaw Citadel, indeed, it was once a prominent fort built between 1849-51, part of the 'Warsaw Fortress', which comprised a whole ringed network of fortifications surrounding Warsaw, built gradually after the November Uprising. With the fall of the Tsarist Empire and advances in military technology and tactics, the network of forts lost their importance. During the Warsaw Uprising, a field hospital was located here. Today, the fort has become a cultural venue hosting various events, and even has a cafe for you to visit. Do check their Facebook page to see if events are on prior to your visit as this often results in the cafe being closed to the public.
