Warsaw Parks
Saying the words "major metropolitan city" or "Polish capital" or even just "Warsaw" might conjure up a lot of images: everything from towering, glossy skyscrapers to austere grey communist-style building. From fraught pasts to glittery, cafe-laden presents.
But one thing that might not pop to mind -- unless you've been lucky enough to see it for yourself -- is "nature."
And in fact, if there's one way we would describe Warsaw to visitors, it's by talking about its greenery. Warsaw is home to a multitude of gorgeous, sprawling parks. They fill every single neighborhood of the city and feature gurgling little streams, duck ponds, a bevy of animals (peacocks, even!). There are numerous benches and bike paths, tons of places to walk, large fields to picnic in.
There are events in the parks (from Shakespeare plays to Chopin concerts and everything in between), workout zones, play areas for children. Some parks even feature little cafes (or at least cafe carts) as you wander!
In fact, it's hard to throw a stone in this city without it landing in or near a park. And, if you're a big nature lover, you'll be happy to know that many of these parks are so large, you can actually forget there's a bustling metropolitan city outside!
We suggest starting with the big one: Łazienki Park, which is home to castles, canals, swans and peacocks, museums, gardens and so much more. If you're on the other side of the river, head to its wilder sister: Skaryszewski, which is a prime spot for a picnic. If you're wandering through the center, be sure to check out all the little pocket parks and smaller parks that are no less impressive and serve as oasises throughout the bustling center.
