This outlet of the Chinese Tan Zhen chain boasts a downmarket charm, filled with those aromas that we all readily identify with the best Chinese food around the world. The interior is classic Chinese restaurant style, including a bamboo mural and lacquer panelings. You can ignore the interior, though, and focus on the food, which is as reassuringly satisfying, tasty and freshly prepared as in the other Tan Zhens across the city. Our only complaint is the variable spice levels: sometimes when they say hot they mean it and other times not at all. Thankfully they'll bring you chili oil to supplement if you ask.
Loved it! Went for lunch and ordered off menu not sure if they have business lunch but, prices good and food was very good rice came after but, no worries maybe 1 or 2 minutes max! Would highly recommend and the issue of inyourpocket Nov 2009 regarding downmarket ignore found it to be clean, a bit old but, felt it was cute!

Tan Zhen - Probably the worst Chinese experience of my life! This restaurant should be taken out of the "In your pocket". I came there at 10:30pm (on the door, they say that they serve till 11). I ordered spring rolls, shrimps with vegetables and rice. Shrimps came three minutes later and followed by rolls and rice after five minutes, meaning that I should eat everything at the same time!I probably never ate such terrible spring rolls in my whole life. The paste was so thick and hard, that I was only able to eat one (there was eight). As for fried shrimps, there were not fried and vegetables directly came out of the freezer, cut un cubes!Just after the rice, came the bill (I never asked for it) and the waitress came twice to ask me to pay, because she wanted to close the cashier. So in less than 25 minutes, everything was done and I didn't have the occasion to order a dessert. As said in the guide, the interior is really nothing special. A screen is showing tv programms, while some kind of hip-hop music is loudly played. Very chinese atmosphere indeed.Try to avoid this restaurant on your next trip!!!
