A traditional Irish pub in the northern capital means Guinness posters and a supply of the dark liquid on tap, including Guinness Extra Cold. With a bright green interior and lots of stools, the Shannon is a neighbourhood place with a welcoming owner (keep an eye out for the man in a kilt...) There's also a small attached courtyard, if you need a breath of fresh air.

You can find better pub grub in town (but you can easily find much worse), and the food is a bit pricey for the neighborhood, but you'd be hard put to find a nicer neighborhood pub atmosphere. Service is usually friendly and decent. English menu available. You'd be well advised to call ahead if you plan to stop in on peak evenings or close to holidays. The place is small, especially when weather closes the patio, and unreserved tables can be scarce, or the whole place can be booked for a party. It's close to the metro, so can be worth a visite even if you don't live in the neighborhood. If you do, you can easily adopt Shannon as your neighborhood pub.
