Housed in the former workshop of the Mariinsky Theatre and storage facility for its many sets and costumes, fire ravaged the building in 2003. The original facade was able to be saved and provided inspiration for the cradle-shaped concert hall that can now boast some of the absolute best acoustics in the world. Specifically designed to accommodate the needs of an orchestra, solo artist and chamber musician, the stage is made up of several blocks that can be mechanically reconfigured to also suit the purpose of a small opera or ballet.
