L. Brik is exactly the kind of restaurant you’d expect it to be if it was named after Lilya Brik, a famed Russian writer and socialite – the muse of the Russian avant-garde scene in the early 1900’s. Dimly lit spaces, light jazz and swing music, colorfully mismatched chairs and offbeat artwork hung lopsidedly creates the feel of a 1930s house party gathering of St. Petersburg’s intelligentsia and artistic elite. The food is modern Russian, where familiar ingredients and recipes are infused with a modern zing – think pumpkin porridge with prawns and scallops or the luce/perch cutlets with potato/celery/carrot purée. Perfect for catching up with friends and philosophizing the night away in a bohemian atmosphere.
