Passing by KFC on Malaya Sadovaya Street you’d never suspect that just around the corner, through the archway, there’s a dark door with a small candle burning gently next to it. This door leads to a very different St. Petersburg, or rather, to Petrograd of the early 20th century. Welcome to Kabinet, a unique cocktail bar with special early 20th century spirit where the drinking traditions of pre-revolutionary St. Petersburg are respected and followed. The location of this bar is no accident: in the late 19th century the gastronomic shop "E.Kobozev's Russian Cheese Store" was located here. The idea of pairing delicatessen cheeses with cocktails and strong alcohol with appetizers originated here. Today, the bar is run like a sophisticated poker club, where bartenders “deal” you cards that eventually determine which cocktail you’ll get. Guests gather around poker tables by candlelight, sipping their cocktails slowly and chatting to each or the knowledgeable bar staff to the sound of jazz music. Calling ahead and reserving a time is essential and smart/smart casual attire is preferred.
