Due south of Pskov lie the picturesque Pushkin Hills. The entire area is pretty much an open air museum situated around the former Pushkin family mansion. The hills breathe 19th century atmosphere, and are a great place to discover some of the incredible scenery that can be found in Russia. Alexander Pushkin spent two years in exile at this estate, and it was here that he wrote some of his most famous works. Just like many other places in the region, the Pushkin Hills are not exactly adapted to tourists, so non-Russians speakers might have some troubles with navigating. It is wise to find a guide who can help you get there and show you the way around the estate, because no matter how beautiful the hills are, you do not want to get lost.
