A slightly less popular cultural institution is located just opposite the Theatre. Stadscafé Heerenplein, known locally as HP, has a reputation, particularly with its student clientele, for its many late night parties. Fortunately the toilet is completely vandal-proof, so frustrations about failed exams have to be vented elsewhere. The central bar is the undisputed eye-catcher of this simple pub, where you can order three local ales (Paulus, Crom Hout and, our favourite, Witte Vrouwen) as well as a great number of other brews. The cheap dishes of the day and its HP classics won't win any culinary prizes, but they lay a decent foundation for a good night out. The large outdoor terrace is another plus and the lovely blonde waitresses seem to attract quite a few male customers.
