Zurich has become the European testing ground for operators of free-floating electric scooter rental systems. The city was initially inundated with hundreds of bikes and then electric scooters, so the city was forced to regulate these new companies. The rules governing these rentals came into effect in April 2019, so operators now require a license and have to pay a fee (also check out our blog post about electric scooters). These electric scooters are admittedly fun to ride and a convenient means of transport since they're available on nearly every street corner. You simply locate a scooter in the respective app (email address and credit card needed), scan it and hop on. When you're finished, you can leave it wherever you're allowed to park a bike. The only downside is that it's rather expensive if you use it regularly. Here's a list of operators that are currently active in Zurich.
