Maria Anto

Nov 7 - Feb 4 2018       Pl. Małachowskiego 3
share
Maria Anto, who passed in 2007, remains an unprecedented figure in the Polish art scene. She's known not only for pursuing and being defined by her unique and original style—which often involved rejecting pre-determined and formulaic artistic principles—but also for doing so (and succeeding) as one of the few female artists working within a primarily male-dominated ecosystem. This exhibit offers the first such extensive review of Anto's works since her death, and also sets the works in the context in which she worked and created as an artist. Encompassing approximately 60 paintings with a special emphasis on those created during the 60s and 70s, the exhibit features individual and collective portraits, animal presentations, allegorical scenes and landscapes, as well as drawings and selected archival materials.
