At the eastern end of Velipoja beach, the large salt-water Viluni lagoon is a protected nature area with a tidal estuary, dunes and forests, all backed by low mountains. The lagoon is home to a rich variety of wildlife, with some 200 species of birds in season, many types of fish and other wildlife. A few restaurants built on its western shores are the easiest way to have a look, while a long detour towards Baks-Rrjolla can get you close to the marshes on the eastern shore.
