At first glance, Shkodra seems a low-key city for tourists, but in its heyday it was a prime merchant's city, positioned along the ancient trade route between the Mediterranean sea and Kosovo, with 2500 shops in the bazaar and 80 types of crafts represented. The famous Wednesday regional markets attracted traders from across the region, and some of their buildings and traditions survive to this day. After visiting Rozafa Castle, try aimlessly wandering the historical streets between Rruga Kolë Idromeno and the Cathedral, visiting the excellent Marubi Photo Collection, and the beautiful Ottoman-era house with the Historical Museum to get a real feel for this historical city.
