Shkodra's most attractive and lively quarters can be found in the area between the mosque and the Cathedral. G'juhadol is the district around Rruga Kolë Idromeno and Rruga G'juhadol. Both streets are lined with elegant turn of the 20th century buildings, many looking fine after recent renovations. Especially along Rruga G'juhadol you see some grand former diplomatic residencies, constructed during the period that the Great Powers were pondering how to chop up the region in the aftermath of the Turkish defeat. Sarreq is the area around the cathedral, with a few remaining fine old houses.
