Holica Observation Tower

Ustrzyki Dolne     more than a year ago
Opened in July 2023, this 35-metre-high observation tower near Ustrzyki Dolne in Bieszczady offers fantastic 360-degree views of the lush surrounding forests and mountainsides, for those willing to climb the 179 steps to the top (plus the hike to get there). Constructed of steel and wood at 761 metres above sea level near the summit of Holica, this new attraction is an ideal goal for hikers in the area, and can't be accessed by car.

The shortest route for getting there is on foot through the forest trail from Ustjanowa Górna, taking about 1hr and covering about 2km, some of which gets a bit steep. Alternatively, you can take the gentler, longer paved road from the parking lot on the road between Ustianowa Dolna and Łobozew Dolny; this route is 4.5km but is less steep and takes only about 90mins. Those looking for a more ambitious hike can set off on the blue trail from the centre of Ustrzyki Dolne (10km/3.5hrs) or Równia (5km/2hrs).

Admission to the tower is free, and note that pets are not allowed on the tower. The tower is located close to the site of a glider school that operated on Holica from 1933-39 training hundreds of pilots before World War II. 10-15mins northwest from the tower you'll find a large clearing that includes the ruins of the glider school and information boards about its history, plus a large shelter, large firepit and numerous picnic tables and benches.
