The American-Russian all-star quintet Opus 5 is fittingly based in the longtime epicentre of the jazz world New York City. Comprised of tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake, Russian-born star trumpeter Alex Sipiagin, pianist David Kikoski, drummer Donald Edwards and another Russian émigré Boris Kozlov on bass, the group is reminiscent of some of the great vintage quintets in jazz history, such as Art Blakey or pre-electric Miles Davis. Although they have individually been around as performers for some time, the five legends in the making only came together to record their first album under the Opus 5 name at the end of last year. Released on the Criss Cross label, Introducing Opus 5 was well-received by critics and classic jazz fans alike, and is sure to serve as the basis for the group's much-awaited performance at Niš Fortress during the festival.
