Visiting The Fun Company at The Zone @ Rosebank

31 Mar 2025

Whether it’s a family day out, a birthday bash, a date, or just an excuse to unleash your inner child, The Fun Company at The Zone @ Rosebank might become your go-to spot for epic outings.

We were invited to try out the newly revamped The Fun Company at The Zone @ Rosebank (Feb 2025) – a welcome excuse to close our laptops for a morning of wholesome entertainment. From high-energy arcade games and bowling to XD-Theatre rides and bumper cars, we tried it all. Here's what we got up to and what you can expect on your visit. If you want to watch us in action, check out our Instagram reel here

Note: The prices included below are indicative of our visit to The Fun Company in February 2025, and are subject to change. Please call ahead to confirm.

TENPIN BOWLING
We kicked off the day with a round of tenpin bowling – a game that's simple in theory, trickier in practice. Rolling a ball down the lane to knock over 10 neatly arranged pins sounds easy enough, but let’s just say it took us a round (or two) to find our form. A mix of social fun, friendly competition, and just the right amount of physical activity, bowling is the kind of game that never gets old. Strikes may be the goal, but there’s always a second shot at glory. Bumper rails are available for children under 12.

HYPERBOWLING
If you want to take things up a notch, there’s also HyperBowling at The Fun Company. Available only at the Menlyn, Pretoria, and The Zone @ Rosebank locations, this takes the classic game and cranks it up a notch. When you roll your ball down the lane, the bumper rails light up as vibrant targets, each with its own score. Hitting them boosts your points, turning every roll into a high-stakes challenge. With progressive levels and five unique challenges per round, the pace is fast, the competition fierce, and the fun non-stop.

THE FUN COMPANY TENPIN BOWLING AND HYPERBOWLING PRICES
Tenpin bowling at The Fun Company is R85 per game per person. No sharing.
HyperBowling at The Fun Company costs R225 per 30-minute lane rental. Maximum six people per lane.

Arcade games at The Fun Company

Basketball hoops and some pink panther action were among the many arcade games at The Fun Company

Our next stop was the arcade games at The Fun Company at The Zone. The classics have met with fresh, innovative upgrades, with more immersive, sensory touches slowly creeping in. But don’t worry, the golden rules of arcade chaos still apply: rapid-fire shooting, swerving recklessly on a plastic motorbike, vigorously throwing soft balls at clown heads that refuse to go down, and of course, the never-ending quest to master the art of token-dropping and lever-smashing for an avalanche of e-tickets.

THE FUN COMPANY ARCADE GAME PRICES
Each arcade game play is between R6 – R25, just tap your card at the front of each machine to activate your game. You can check your available balance on the screen after each tap.

XD-Theatre at The Fun Company

We then headed to the XD-Theatre (an immersive movie experience with 3D visuals, motion seats, and special effects like wind and water, making you feel part of the action). This attraction combines state-of-the-art 4D visuals with dynamic motion seats and special effects, creating a fully immersive experience. There are three different simulations to choose from: Haunted House, Joyride, and Snow Land. We chose Joyride this time around. Once you take your seat and put your 3D glasses on, the ride starts, and high-definition visuals and surround sound create the feeling of a virtual reality. We can’t guarantee lots of thrills for the adults, but the kids will love this.

THE FUN COMPANY XD-THEATRE PRICES
One XD-Theatre ride at The Fun Company is R60 per person.

Spin Zone bumper cars at The Fun Company

The upgraded Spin Zone was the highlight of our visit. Unlike traditional bumper cars, these high-energy vehicles come with a unique twist – literally. Equipped with special sensors, they let you send opponents into a thrilling 360-degree spin with just a bump. At first, we were a little hesitant to make the first move, but soon enough, we were addicted to the crashes and dizzying spins. Whether you’re up for a friendly challenge or just in it for the ride, Spin Zone promises fun for all ages. Each car features a padded bumper, easy-to-use controls, and a safety harness, making it safe for even younger drivers to join in.

THE FUN COMPANY BUMPER CAR PRICES
Bumper cars at The Fun Company are R50 per person, per ride. One person per car.
