So much happening at one of our all-time favourite Joburg destinations, 44 Stanley. From shoes and hats to furniture, these are the highlights. 

BIRKENSTOCK
One of the world's favourite casual shoe brands Birkenstock is celebrating its 250th birthday with a concept event and activation space at 44 Stanley from Fri Nov 1 – Dec 2024. Known for their sandals and shoes featuring contoured cork footbeds that perfectly conform to your feet, this makes a lovely addition to the precinct just in time for summer and the festive season. PATH NOMAD'S AFRICAN ZEN EXHIBITION
African Zen is the latest exhibition at Path Nomad's gallery space in collaboration with Trov and Topolansky Furniture. Explore fine furniture and beautifully crafted artefacts celebrating resilience, tradition, and cultural expression. Don’t miss this wonderful exhibition, where everything is for sale, showing until Fri, Dec 20

SEALAND
As one door closes, another opens. Taking over the space of Crystal Birch's pop-up hat shop is Sealand, a lifestyle label focused on adventure and responsibly made gear and apparel, including bamboo socks and a variety of bags and T-shirts made from recycled materials.

STUDIO BANANAAA
For one-of-a-kind accessories, swing by Studio Bananana’s new pop-up space at 44 Stanley, open until the end of 2024. This creative hub is all about expressing ideas and telling uniquely beautiful stories through art, fashion, music, design, photography, and film. Don’t miss their debut bag design in collaboration with Sannie Studios, The Hat Bag, inspired by the artistry and iconic shapes of hats. You can access their latest hat collection, eKhoneni, inspired by the culture and creativity of sharing and learning at a common meeting place or corner. Find them down the passageway, next to Cycle Boutique.

Ya-de
It’s your chance to elevate your wardrobe with a dash of Afro-chic flair as Ya-de, the new multi-brand store, opens its doors at 44 Stanley. Featuring labels from Senegal, Nigeria, and Ghana, including L’Artisane, Dye Lab, Sister of Afrika, and Christie Brown, you'll love their bold prints and rich craftsmanship.

First Sunday at Vic Yards

Enjoy a lively busker jam, a bead class, and let the little ones have a blast in the kids' corner at Victoria Yards on Sun, Nov 3. With over 40 vendors at their market and their regular Thrift Studio, you’re sure to find something special. There’s also a 'sip and ceramic' workshop, yoga sessions, and flower bouquet arranging. We love The Zone for its range of local fashion labels, and now The Zone @ Rosebank has landed one of our all-time city best, Boys of Soweto, who have joined We Are EGG – arguably Joburg's coolest department store with more than more than 180 brands under its banner. There's also Galxboy's new outlet that opened earlier this year, bringing Pretoria's boldest looks closer to home. Whether you’re hunting for standout fashion, grabbing a bite, catching a film, or exploring with the kids, there’s something for everyone in this lively space. Stitching together creativity: Romaria and Something Good Unite

There's exciting news from our friends at Romaria and Something Good, who have a Joburg home in the downstairs retail space of 223 Jan Smuts Creative Hub. Romaria launches the Kusafiri collection in collaboration with The Urbanative, a stylish blend of knitwear and creativity. Meanwhile, Something Good introduces Threaded Together – a custom-made blanket for Berman Contemporary in collaboration with artist Odette Graskie. Graskie's solo exhibition Side Quest runs at the gallery until Sun, Jan 26, 2025, where the new blanket is on display and up for grabs.

What's more, Romaria and Something Good Studio are merging into one fabulous brand, and soon opening their very first standalone retail store at The Watershed in Cape Town. If you’re in the Mother City on Fri, Nov 1, be sure to attend.

Being served food and footwear in one spot is a combination you wouldn’t expect, but that’s what makes The Frog at The Courtyard, Illovo, so novel. Hop on over to this foot bar, where you can sink your teeth into steak sandwiches or comforting bangers and mash, complete with sides, salads, desserts, and even breakfast to satisfy all your cravings. Treasure hunt at the Brooklyn and Nelson Mandela Square antique fairs

Weekend browsing that we recommend. Discover unique treasures at the Brooklyn Antique Fair at Brooklyn Mall on the first Saturday of each month. Browse through a diverse selection of jewellery, accessories, ceramics, home décor, and more. For those in Joburg seeking vintage finds closer to home, the Nelson Mandela Square Antique Fair, a sister event, is held on the first Sunday of every month. Both fairs offer an array of covetable collector's items.
