Commanding a hilltop opposite the Fortica, Fort Napoleon (“poljun,” in the local dialect) serves as a sun observatory and is a ruggedly handsome reminder of the (albeit short) period when France ruled the Adriatic waves. Built in 1807, it is now used as a weather station and observatory by Zagreb University and is not open for sightseeing. However the hike up here will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the coast: a zig-zagging trail leads up to the fort from ul. Jerka Mišetića.
