Arguably Hvar at its most seductive, this glorious swathe of fine smooth pebble lies at the bottom of a deep valley just below the point at which the main Stari Grad-bound road dives into its north-bound tunnel. Backed by a historic stone summer house, the beach is the kind of place that you might think you've seen before: it is often used as a film location as well as featuring in travel media as one of Hvar's most representative landscapes. Dubovica is reached by a rough path that runs downhill from the roadside - or by boat. There's a limited roadside parking strip but it soon fills up (so best not to come by car).
