Regular buses run between Hvar, Stari Grad and Jelsa for those who fancy a day-trip looking at the island's other towns. All buses heading east out of Hvar Town pick up and drop off at stops just above Milna, Zaraće and Dubovica.
The main road connects Hvar with the island's other main settlements of Stari Grad and Jelsa, continuing along the spine of the island to Sućuraj at the eastern end. It's a highly scenic drive, full of dramatic scenery and sweeping maritime views.
The old road from Hvar to Stari Grad is even more exciting, although it is not for the faint-hearted, winding its way over the hills in a sequence of zig-zags and tight turns.
Local buses run by Čazmatrans provide an easy way of getting around the island's main settlements. For those who want to roam further afield, cars, bikes, quad bikes and mopeds can be hired at numerous outlets in Hvar Town: several rental companies have stands opposite the bus stop at Dolac.
