This exhibition explores the Gdańsk's maritime heritage and its vital role in the Hanseatic League, an economic union of Baltic trading cities that existed from the 14th to the 16th century. This collection of over 200 model ships, manuscripts, artworks, and other artefacts, help explain significance of this network, and how it helped facilitate Gdańsk's prosperity, growing into what would become the largest port in Renaissance Europe. Learn about the types of ships used for trade, the financial expertise of Gdańsk's merchants, and the decline of the League. Highlights of the collection include Hans Holbein's famous 1532 painting of Georg Giese, and the oldest-known epitaph of Gdańsk.
