For years, there’s been little reason to travel to the south side of the city, beyond ul. Podwale Przedmiejskie, but that’s starting to change and places like this are a big reason why. Magiel is a really attractive space, set in a new building overlooking the canal built to seal off Granary Island from the rest of the city. The chefs hold court in a central cooking area where they prepare some absolutely wonderful-tasting dishes from a menu, which is original but solid.

Some of their latest additions include Savoy Cabbage Leaves stuffed with Goose Meat - a curious array of textures that somehow retain a mesmering flavour; Cold herring soup with potatoes, fresh radish, chives and freshly-cut dill - perfect for a summer lunch; Vegan pasta with pesto of pine nuts and fresh basil and falafel - An indulgent and superb-quality vegetarian dish. If you’re staying in the Hotel Almond, you may never eat anywhere else, while if you are not it’s worth taking a stroll over to this part of town just for this. Keep an eye out for the chef's weekly specials and the live music on Thursday and Saturday evenings.
