This exhibit in Artus Court presents landscape paintings of the city of Gdańsk created between 1900 and 1945. While viewers will see many iconic and recognisable buildings, there are also many urban landscapes that no longer exist or differ wildly from how they appeared in real life. The Gdańsk portrayed in these paintings is not the Gdańsk of prewar photography, but one filtered through the artistic styles, colours, impressions, prejudices, talents and emotions of their creators. They reveal a special atmosphere and urban spirit that inspired and fascinated artists, as well as a proud idea of 'Gdańskness' based on the city's history and tradition of independence.
