Frank Meisler Plaque

ul. Tkacka     more than a year ago
Unveiled in July 2018 as part of the 5th World Gdansk Reunion celebrations, this commemorative plaque remembers the life of Frank Meisler (1925-2018), who was born in the Free City of Danzig and escaped almost certain death at the hands of the Nazis by fleeing as a child on the last of the Kindertransports to leave the city in August 1939. Meisler went on to become a renowned sculptor and created five pieces honouring the Kindertransports and the children who were saved by them which now stand in London, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Berlin. The sculpture 'The Departure' commemorates his own transport and can be found outside Gdansk's main train station.
