A giant place of worship, the Church of the Divine Providence actually is two churches within one building. Established in 1979, the cornerstone was laid by Pope John Paul II when he visited in June 1987 and celebrated mass in front of thousands on what was then open land outside the church. There are a few points of interest, not least an exhibition commemorating the Pope’s historic visit. The church was consecrated in 2009 and relics of Pope John Paul II were brought into the church in on June 12, 2012, the 25th anniversary of his having help mass outside. A granite monument of the Pope, unveiled in June 1999 sits outside of the church.
