Even if you don't appreciate modern art you can still enjoy the striking architecture of the Van Abbemuseum. It’s distinctive architectural design and picturesque natural setting on the east bank of the River Dommel make it a sight worth seeing. In fact, two buildings have merged into one, with the facade of the new building clad in grey natural stone from the northern part of Scandinavia. This sleek design forms an expressive contrast between the light and the surprisingly transparent spaces within. Its beating heart is a 27m-high tower with inward-sloping walls upon which every floor opens out creating a modern maze of sorts. Don’t miss its attached cafĂ© that offers a wonderful outdoor terrace and views of the ‘inner-lake’ that boasts one of the shortest covered bridges you'll ever see.
