The Van Abbemuseum was founded in 1936 by local art lover, philanthropist and cigar manufacturer Henri van Abbe. Over the years this museum for contemporary art has amassed a vast and valuable collection of roughly 2,700 works of art, only some of which are on display. The enchanting central staircase takes you through the various levels of the building including the top floor where masterpieces by Picasso, Kandinsky and Mondrian can be found. You can also view video art, paintings, sculptures and drawings. Although some visitors have quipped that it's ‘the most unapproachable art you've ever seen’, we believe that no visit to Eindhoven is complete without a visit to the Van Abbemuseum. Exhibitions change quite often, so check its website for the latest news.
