Het Wasven is a tiny green oasis that is more of a picturesque garden than a park. For centuries this hidden gem was also home to a castle dating from 1375, but sadly in 1930 its owners had it demolished. The only visible reminder of that bygone era is the stately row of beech trees that once lead to the entrance. Today this 6ha area is owned and operated by a group of local volunteers and is now home to an organic bakery, an historic farm, a restaurant and an ancient 4.5m-thick tree. Come here during the summer on the last Sunday of the month for intimate afternoon concerts or take the ‘Made in Tongelre’ bike route throughout the district, which passes by many of the places where Vincent van Gogh used to paint. The map is on sale at the restaurant for €2.
