In a city bursting with design and the remnants of electronics giant Philips, it’s not unusual that a restaurant would combine these assets with contemporary cuisine. At first glance you might think you've walked into a vintage furniture shop as everything that’s on display is for sale. If its food you're after, don’t bother searching for a menu. It doesn't have one. Just head over to the counter and pick any of the items and then decide on how you'd like to have it prepared. You can also let the chef decide by choosing the tafeltje vol (table full), but make sure your credit card has a large limit. Although the food in this eclectic place is a bit pretentious, the service is informal, which suits this funky place and its offbeat ambience. It’s certainly not the cheapest place to have a meal in town, but dining at Smalle Haven is an essential Eindhoven experience.
