Despite the fact that modern revisionist historians would have you believe that the Dutch army and the resistance movement didn't perform any great or heroic deeds during World War II, artist Jan van Luyn sets this misconception straight with this impressive statue dedicated to Holland's domestic forces. Made of French limestone, the statue depicts a male figure standing on a pedestal of white stone flanked by sculpted lions on either side. In the foreground are 12 war graves and on the wall behind the graves are 12 reliefs that depict the unity of those who perished. The monument is over 4m-high and the powerful, impressive man symbolises the courage and determination of the Dutch resistance.
