Münsterhof
Located in a stately house on Münsterplatz, Münsterhof is a restaurant steeped in history. Renowned young chef Karim Schumann now runs the show here and his tasting menu convinced us of his considerable talents. The heavenly tartar of Swiss salmon, radish (halved lengthwise to be more pleasing to the eye) and ginger was an excellent way to start the evening and the second course of asparagus was crisp and also included a rich ham-Hollondaise sauce and some buckhorn plantain for extra colour and flavour. The main dish was a dry-aged tenderloin cooked to perfection and before we finished with a rhubarb and butter crumble chocolate mousse, we were invited to pay Karim a visit in the kitchen, where he showed us his special charcoal grill made from two flower pots, which apparently creates the ideal kind of heat that he requires. The kitchen also displays photos of the city’s most influential food critics, so the service team can recognise them, yet our face was curiously absent from this elite group. No matter. Host Manuel did an excellent job anyway ensuring that a pleasant evening was had by all.
