[closed] Alpenrose
Named after a flower with rich connotations in Swiss folklore, this small restaurant could truly be called a natural beauty. The delightful interior with wood-panelled walls, richly decorated plastered ceilings and a jumble of photographs and panels from the innocent age of advertising is one of the most charming and original in Zurich. The chef uses only Swiss produce for her ever creative selection of not-so-obvious regional specialities. You won't find cheese fondue on the menu, but e.g. burratina, a meltingly soft mozzarella-like cheese from Ticino, Riesling white wine soup from the Zurich region or an excellent cut of local lamb. The very friendly, genuine service rounds off this polished but unpretentious culinary jewel. Vegetarian options too.
