30 Aug 2024

There is something immensely inspiring about immersing yourself in creativity. Zagreb is arguably Croatia's creative heartbeat, and the city is packed with domestic and international artists making some seriously stunning stuff. Several art events shine on the calendar this September, and all are worth visiting. Get ready to be inspired.

Karolina Żyniewicz: Signs of the Times - Collecting Biological Traces and Memories

September 15 - October 1
Polish artist Karolina Żyniewicz will engage and confound during her month-and-a-half residency in the Croatian capital, highlighted by her fascinating “Sign of the Times: Collecting Biological Traces and Memories” exhibition. The exhibition is all about memory and the COVID-19 pandemic when medical masks and distance became normal almost overnight. For Żyniewicz, art is a way of perceiving the world, so visitors can expect plenty of consideration here. Excellent stuff.

Shahto-Culture

September 7 - 29
Hang onto your hats because this is unlike anything you will have experienced before. Hosted by the House of Extreme Musical Theater (Kuća ekstremnog muzičkog kazališta), Shahto-Culture will see around 50 artists transform Pogon Jedinstvo (Jedinstvo Plant) into another world, one of rubber passageways and recycled post-industrial performance devices. Several performances will take place under the umbrella of Shahto-Culture, from a six-channel video installation called “Virus Shahto-Culture” to shahtophone workshops for all ages. Many art events claim a unique aura and atmosphere, but nobody does it quite like Shahto-Culture.
