The 37th Salon of Youth will be held at the HDLU Home (Meštrović Pavilion) and 10 other locations from April 25 to June 16.
The Salon of Youth, established in 1968, traditionally takes place biennially. It is the largest exhibition of national importance aimed at presenting the works of contemporary artists up to 35 years old from the Republic of Croatia. In its over 50 years of existence, the Salon has showcased the work of over 3,600 artists and has consistently introduced new names to the Croatian art scene. In addition to presenting the latest artistic practices, the Salon has been awarding prizes to the most successful works since its inception, adequately valuing artistic work and highlighting to the broader public the new names on the scene whose work should be followed in the future. The Salon of Youth is organized by the Croatian Association of Fine Artists in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Zagreb.
The central exhibition of the 37th Salon of Youth, curated by Lovro Japundžić under the title "THE CLOCK FELL INTO THE WELL," will be presented at the HDLU Home (Bačva Gallery, PM Gallery, Prsten Gallery, Ispod Gallery, HDLU Club). Parallel to the central exhibition of the 37th Salon of Youth, the program SITUATIONS will be presented at three additional locations, aiming to represent and advocate for a broader cross-section of the new generation of artists. This program is curated by Lora Rajčić and Ivana Završki, named after one of the traditional programs on most salons since its revolutionary founding in 1968. The traditional VENIENTES program, which will take place at the Putolovac Gallery, will present works by the most successful graduates of all 6 Academy of Fine Arts departments in Zagreb, awarded by the Academic Council. The International Outlook program has achieved an international dimension of the event by networking local artists with curators, galleries, institutions, and residency organizers from abroad. The International program will host 14 foreign curators and artists from Austria, Spain, the UK, Serbia, Slovenia, Estonia, Slovakia, and Norway. The Salon will also host the organizational team of the Youth Biennale from Belgrade, who will present the organization and activities of the Biennale through an exhibition and discourse program.
With the support of the EU CreArt project, the program will expand to 5 business premises (agencies 404, Infinum, 3LHD, VMD) through the Takeover activity to further sensitize the private sector to support contemporary art. The 37th Salon of Youth will feature over 80 younger generation artists, accompanied by numerous additional international, educational, discourse, and music programs.
