With over 10,000 plant species, this garden will remind you that indeed yes, there is more to life than cars and fumes of exhaust and high-rises that house humans and computers transferring billions of dollars with clicks of fingers. It was founded in 1889 and seems to be a kind of seductive siren for turtles, pigeons and ducks of all kinds. Great park benches to park yourself upon. Warning: lily pads do not bare the weight of full grown humans.
Just 10 steps away from Botanical garden over the lawn accross the entrance you can see one of the most beautifull secession palaces in Zagreb- the building of Croatian State Archives once the Royal University Library built in 1913. The interior hides a collection of vitraills oil on canvas rich opalascent glass lamps wooden panels with "puttis" ceramic pilasters... The exterior shows four columns with huge owls each carrying a globe(symbol of wisdom and knowlege). There are relievs up the front and back by Frangeš and Valdec. It's definitely worth visiting. Address Marulić Square Nr.21. The project made by R. Lubynski construction works carried out by the Brother Ehrlich arts and crafts by the best artists and craftsman of Zagreb. Otherwise 8 central parks&squares in downtown of Zagreb were decorated at the end of 19th century mostly in English but some (Tomislav Square) in French style and all shaped into a horse-shoe shape. The idea of Milan Lenucci who got inspired by Vienna's parks.
