Although traditionally a nation of meat lovers with a very 'meat and potatoes' approach towards feeding itself, the vegan lifestyle has not only become extremely popular in Poland, but Warsaw has become one of the most pioneering centres of vegan culture in the world. Showcasing and celebrating this culture, which is closely tied to political activism in Poland, vegan restaurants, vegan chefs, makers of vegan food products and cosmetics, committed vegans and the vegan curious all come together during Warsaw's Vege Festival (Wege Festiwal) - a huge vegan and vegetarian market that moves around the city every few months. In addition to about 100 merchants and vendors, there are also some related lectures and meetings.
