Once part of Praga district folklore, the bears of Al. Solidarności will never again feature in the noisy roadside enclosure! Strangely enough, bears lived on the concrete island in the Praga district's Praski Park 1949-2020, with over 400 reared here before being packed off to zoos, safari parks and circuses around the globe. Although the bears looked rather sleepy, they could still pack a punch. In 2015 a drunken idiot was savaged after jumping into the enclosure, in 2018 someone drunkenly taking a selfie fell into the enclosure, and again in May 2020, another drunken idiot decided to jump into the enclosure to taunt one of the bears before having to wrestle his way to safety (there are videos online of said stupidity). The last two residents of the island are called Mała and Sabina - the third, Tatra, was moved back to the zoo due to old age. In 2018 (although years overdue) Warsaw Zoo made the decision not to replace the current inhabitants of the enclosure once they die, however, the events of May 2020 resulted in the immediate transfer of the remaining bears to the calmer confines of the zoo itself! If you want to see them, go in summer - no prizes for guessing why you won't see them during the winter months...
