Maria Skłodowska-Curie Monument

ul. Kościelna ,   Old Town         more than a year ago
Not far from her birthplace/museum, this lovely life-size monument of Maria Skłodowska-Curie is worth the short detour from Warsaw's Old Town. Picturesquely situated at the end of ul. Kościelna, the monument offers wonderful views of the Vistula river from atop a flight of stairs that leads down to the Multimedia Fountain Park; it was a view that the two-time Nobel prize-winning scientist herself often enjoyed during her youth and later visits to her home city.

In the great tradition of the French giving wonderful statues, this bronze monument was a gift of the Association of Members of the Legion of Honor and the French National Order of Merit, and is not only an tribute to arguably history's greatest female sicientist, but also a symbol of French-Polish friendship. It was unveiled in 2014 to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Curie's passing.
