A key figure in the history of Polish art, Józef Chełmoński is generally known as one of the preeminent realist/natural Polish painters at the turn of the 20th Century. And now, you can see his art and life for yourself at a special exhibition at the National Museum of Art in Warsaw!

The exhibition, which is currently ongoing and runs through Jan. 25, will reflect key areas of the painter's life and interests. Chełmoński was known for his paintings of nature, countryside views and scenes of village life that shaped rural Polish culture at the time.

"His extraordinary perceptivity allowed him to recollect even the most ephemeral of impressions and preserve them on canvas," the museum wrote in a statement on the exhibit.

Throughout the exhibition, viewers will be able to see things like how Chełmoński admired horses, how he sensitively observed nature, and how he saw a kind of spirituality in the scenes and the natural world that he painted. The months-long exhibition is the result of a research project conducted by the National Museums in Warsaw, Poznań and Kraków and it's accompanied by a complete catalogue of his paintings.
