Founded in 1388 by Janusz the Elder, Duke of Mazovia, the first Gothic wooden church was built here along with an urban hospital, the first of its kind in the Mazovian region. In the 17th century, a spiritual ministry was created by the Pauline monks. The current baroque church, designed by architects Józef Piola and Józef Szymon Bellotti, is reminiscent of the one built by the monks early in the 18th century. As with many buildings in the district, the church was destroyed in 1944, and rebuilt in 1956 by reconstructing the facade of the Baroque saint statues, the pulpit and the great altar.
