You can't enjoy Peruvian art without at least taking in a little bit of history along with it. This history might be learned and researched, or it might just be felt or assumed as you walk through this magnificent collection. The collection—consisting of religious artworks depicting saints or sacred figures, mixed in with domestic-use items finessed by fine silversmiths—communicate much more than just what they reference. At the hands of Italian masters and representatives of Mannerism, we see the story of Peruvian cultural heritage as it was made, piece by piece—as the country's pre-Colombian and Andean heritage collided with incoming European influences and religious beliefs.
