Velenje's landmark sports centre was originally built as a multi-purpose convention, exhibition and sports venue back in 1975, but has been fully renovated and modernised in recent years. Located south of the city centre the large red structure is an unmissable sight when entering Velenje on the main road from the motorway. With just under 4500m2 of total area for recreational and sports activities, the hall is perhaps best known as the home of the RK Gorenje handball club, which is a perennial powerhouse in the Slovene league. The main multi-purpose court (used for handball, basketball, indoor football, etc) is flanked by bleacher seating for up to 1000 spectators, which is expanded to a total of 2500 for certain events. In addition to watching sports, Rdeče Dvorana contains numerous other facilities, including space for squash, badminton, table tennis and various training rooms, as well as several full/sized tennis courts, a large climbing wall and even a putting green - all of which can be reserved for use by individuals.
