The best mid-range hotels in Damascus

Time
A surprising number of mid-range hotels can be found across the city, often in the commercial area west of the Old Town.

Some are set in serene, traditional Damascene courtyard houses; others can be standard, boxy business hotels along noisy roads – whatever the looks, you can expect friendly and competent service in our selection below.

Old Vine Hotel

With fabulous views of the Umayyad Mosque from the rooftop terrace, the Old Vine Hotel or Al-Dalia al-Qadima in Arabic, was opened in late 2025 after lengthy renovations and consists of three connected traditional houses, each with a courtyard filled with the fragrance of the citrus trees. The elegant modern rooms come with elaborate local furniture.

Beit Zaman

Decent rooms in a sprawling 300-year-old traditional hotel right on the main Roman drag through the old town. Apart from the lovely courtyards, the Damasco restaurant, and Al-Dardasha cafe, there's the popular Al-Areesha rooftop terrace. In the basement, guests can use the hotel's hammam steam bath and book massages and other treatments.

Al-Zaytouna Boutique Hotel

A gorgeous traditional Damascene house with 13 modern rooms overlooking a courtyard complete with a tinkling fountain. The location, hidden in an alley just steps from the Bab Touma city gate, is ideal for both sightseeing and nearby dining and nightlife options. Lights and Wi-Fi work here during power cuts too. Couples should ask beforehand if they need proof of marriage to stay here.

Aram Hotel

A charming and simple Damascene courtyard hotel, with all the regular trappings of a burbling fountain, stripey stones and ornate rooms. Travellers' feedback has been positive about the Aram, confirming rooms are cosy and warm in the winter and have 24-hour light, but finding the wifi weak and only intermittent plug electricity.

Dama Rose Hotel

Along the main road towards Beirut, the former Meridien Hotel is a high-end luxury pad with lots of shiny marble, good security, attentive service, a great pool and various high-end cafes, bars and restaurants.
