The week will open with the viewer favourite from the last edition of MENAR "Pastaryani". The culinary comedy presents the fierce battle for the Best Restaurant in Tehran award.
On 25th July the latest masterpiece of the Iranian classic Reza Mirkarimi "Fairytale Castle" will be shown. The film won the Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor (Hamed Behdad) Awards at the Shanghai Film Festival, the Best Director and Best Actor at the Antalya Forum and the Best Screenplay Award from Fajr IFF in Tehran.
On Sunday 26th July, you can see the favourite of the Tehran audience "Herd without a Shepherd" - it won 4 awards from 13 nominations at the Fajr Festival. The story follows the lives of three brothers and a sister who live in a criminal ghetto on the outskirts of Tehran. One day, someone uploads a video on the Internet of their sister Mona removing the towel from her head in front of a man to show off her beautiful braid. The honor of the family is at stake and the brothers must protect it.
On Monday and Tuesday, the films "Motherhood" and "Daffodil Season" directed by two ladies - Rogie Tavakolli and Negar Azerbaijan - will be shown. The MENAR festival often focuses on the creativity of women in the region.
"Motherhood" shows the complicated relationship in an Iranian family, where the man and the woman live apart, but he refuses to divorce her because he is convinced that she still loves him and it is just a temporary crisis.
"Daffodil Season" intertwines the stories of three women from different neighborhoods in Tehran. Gizu takes a taxi through the streets of Tehran, but one day a famous actor accidentally gets in her car and her life changes instantly.
Payman Hagani's exclusive "316" will be shown on 29th July. Viewers will follow a woman's life through the shoes she has worn over the years.
Iranian Cinema Week will end on 30th July with the screening of the hit "5-star Hotel" starring the Silver Bear winner of the Berlin Film Festival (Separation) and the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival. (The Merchant Traveler) Shahab Hosseini and veteran Homayun Ershadi, known from Abbas Kiarostami's classic "The Taste of the Cherry".
