One of the largest lakes in the country and completed as part of a massive hydroelectric project towards the end of the 1960s, Lake Debar—or Špilje as it’s sometimes also referred to—connects the Black Drin and Radika rivers is a popular summertime haunt for lovers of water and those who enjoy fishing. Literally lapping the edge of Debar, services and infrastructure remain very much geared towards the locals, with almost nothing in the way of helpful information for foreigners. If you’re in Debar and would like to do something on or in the lake, ask anyone in town and they should be able to help.
