An extraordinary church inside a cave overlooking Lake Ohrid, the origins of this richly painted masterpiece have been lost to time, although it’s known that at least one of the frescos inside dates from the 13th century. Absolutely worth the time and effort spent getting there, to find it drive west out of Struga to the village of Kališta. Turn right at the Izgrev Hotel sign, then left at the next Izgrev Hotel sign and follow the road all the way to the bottom. Located inside a monastery complex, walk through the main gate and ignore the signs to the church. If you find yourself standing in front of the Hotel Biser you walked too far. The church is located directly behind the chapel in the monastery courtyard. Someone will come and let you in.
