If you like fresh trout you’ll love fresh Ohrid trout, a unique species found only in the lake from which it gets its name and that can be found on just about every menu in the region. Try it at Ohrid’s recommended Biljanini Izvori restaurant, where you can choose your own from the live ones swimming in the tanks outside, and if you’re feeling especially adventurous, ask for a bowl of čiorba, a local soup made from the aforementioned animal that’s for reasons that escape many popular at breakfast time.
